Mascara Do's & Don'ts

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on May 22, 2012 at 8:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi dolls,

Are you desirous of Lush eyelashes? They Never go out of style & always make a statement! So get your wands ready for the perfect fluttering of lashes with our Tuesday's DO's & DON'TS!

Do~  use a lash curler to get the best results with your mascara. Let your lashes dry a bit between coats. apply one layer to top and bottom, and then do a second coat on the outer upper lashes. That way, your outer lashes look longer and thicker, & they look wider, too,

Tip* Wiggle your wand brush right into the lash roots, and don’t forget to get the finer hairs on your inner corner (or your eye).

Don’t ~ pump your wand in and out of the mascara a bunch of times, it adds too much air that subsequently dries the mascara out prematurely.

Tip* A big mistake many make is adding water to the tube when you’re running low…  It can create bacteria and will only increase your chances of getting an eye infection.

Play up your skin tone

Hi dolls,

So how do you find your perfect blush? Hmmm... Well I always say, experimenting is the best way! However, I know sometimes that saying can sound vague. Here are a few tips that may help you get started:

If your skin is FAIR like these ladies

Go for blushes in pale pinks and apricots those are a great choice for pale skin and gives you a natural rosy glow.

For Medium Skin

Try Plum hues if you want a subtle hint of color, or light corals if you want a warmer sun-kissed look.

For Dark Skin

Deep berries like raspberry and cranberry, for a natural look and reddish-orange shades for a fun pop of color.

Tip* You can go soft or bold! For a subtle glow, apply an invisble translucent powder over your blush. To amp up your blush, apply a natural-looking shade along your cheekbones and apples, then layer a slightly brighter color on the apples!

My favorite are these baked blushes from Bombshellbysm. The blushes are baked on its own terra-cotta tile. What this does is not allow moisture to escape, creating a super fine micronized powder that is velvety smooth & goes on effortlessly!

I love, love, love a sunkissed look! Do you wear blush? What is your favorite look?

Don't ~ forget to touch-up your lipstick or gloss and use a invisible blotting powder to fix a shiny nose throughout the day! ~TuesdayBeautyTip~Xo

Tips* Eye primer applied under your lips can help your lip stick or lip gloss last longer!

Banish black heads

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on May 9, 2012 at 10:15 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Dolls,

Blackheads can be really annoying for anyone, especially when trying to get rid of them with the help of natural remedies or through strips or some other extraction. Did you know baking soda can help banish blacks heads? Baking soda is a natural bleaching agent. It can help draw oil from your skin to clarify it. Baking soda also acts as a natural exfoliating agent, helping you to slough off dead skin and blackheads.

The best way to use this method is to take some baking soda and combine it with water until it forms a paste. Then apply the baking soda to the face and let it sit until it is dry. Then, gently scrub the baking soda away and rinse with cold water so that your pores are closed.

*Tip ~ Steam your face to loosen up your blackheads before doing the baking soda trick. When they are loose, they tend to come out easily. You can boil some water and maybe add a few drops of lavender oil and drape a towl around your head. Take in the steam for a few minutes so the pores open.

Ps. You can use this tip on a regular basis, however make sure you don't steam your face too often because this can cause your face to look and feel dry.

Do you have any home remedies to banish Blackheads?

Sunblock Do's and Don'ts

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on May 8, 2012 at 5:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Dolls,

Hope everyone had an ahhhhmazing weekend! Mine was super busy with lots of celebrating, May is filled with many birthday's! Now that the weather is starting to get nice, for some of you it's probably already nice wherever you are, however here in Chicago it's been cray-cray!!! hahaha

Do ~ make sure to put on more than you think you need when it comes to sunscreen. Most people don't apply enough. Remember dolls, too much is actually better than too little especially when outdoors.

Tip ~ If you have oily skin and are prone to acne, be careful about what sunscreen you apply to your face. Look for an oil-free brand like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry that is non-comdogenic and dries super soft, instead of feeling greasy and moist like other brands.

Don't  ~ think price means better protection. Less expensive sunscreen brands are just as effective as expensive designer brands. Choose an SPF of at least 20, and reapply as often as stated on the product.

Tip ~ Swimming, perspiration and exercising can diminish your sunscreen's protection. It's best to reapply throughout the day to avoid harmful exposure.

What is your favorite sunblock you use?

Ombre Dye = New found love!

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on May 3, 2012 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Dolls,

So last night I decided to try a new hair color, you all know that I LOVE my dark hair because its low MAINTENANCE! hahahaha I decided to do the ombre look, since it's just that! Not sure what that is? Here are a few celebrity examples of Ombre hair.

Rachel Bilson (She's so cute)

Lauren Conrad (for those of you who are blonde)

Lily Aldrige (This is more the look I'm going for).

Ombre hair is supposed to have a gradient effect going from dark on top to light at the tips. Because my hair was so dark I knew going in, this would have to be a gradual process that would take a few times to achieve.

I went to a neighborhood salon called Solo Salon and was very luck to get Joey as my hair stylist! He knew EXACTLY what I wanted, he was also happy that I understood that it would be a process to achieve the color. I'm so happy with the way it came out on our first try.

Before...

After...

I'm still considering lightening the ends a bit more to enhance the "gradient" effect. However, I'm going to wait a few weeks and see how much lighter it gets! Thank you Joey at Solo Salon Love it darling just love it!

So are any of you feeling the summer hair-change itch like I did? hahaha

Wacky remedies... Maybe not?

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on May 2, 2012 at 5:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey dolls, so today I was reading this magazine (Can't remember which one, was at the doctor's office) and it had a remedy for treating your pimple with Vodka & Ice.... I know, weird right? "This coming from the girl who uses toothpaste" teehee!

So I was telling my friend about it and she said, she has tried it and it really does work! What happens is the cold from the ice reduces the swelling while the alcohol helps to dry out the pimple. Ahhhhhh Eyebrow raises up  (-.^)  All you need to do is dip an ice cube in vodka and press it on the pimple for a few minutes! Pretty simple huh?

If you are under 21 then click HERE and read my blog on other remedies for your blemishes you can try that doesn't involve Alcohol! hahaha

So has anyone tried this out before? I always say that you should try something at least once... Next time I get a blemish I will have to try this out! ;)

Cheers to wacky remedies

Give some TLC to your makeup brushes!

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on April 30, 2012 at 3:15 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi all,

I was looking through my beauty tips on facebook throughout the year, and thought I would revisit some of them and add a few more tips for you dolls!

A common question asked is how often should you clean your brushes? Ideally, everyday. But, who has time for that? hahahaha I did discover these cool brush wipes by Japonesque they wipe away excess makeup and bacteria. Great for on the go, especially while you're on vacation!

However, you really should try and clean them at LEAST once a week. Like your own hair, your makeup brushes need a little TLC too!  Aside from build up of body oil, dead skin and make-up residue cleaning your makeup brushes (no matter if they are of high quality or not high quality) will keep them lasting for years!

Another common question is how do you clean your brushes? There are many brush soaps that you can buy at the store or online. However, I like to take a cup of warm water and dip my brushes making sure I don't get any water into the metal part. I then apply some baby shampoo and a tiny bit of cocnut oil to the hairs from the metal part to hair tips, over and over adding a little water at a time. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear. Brush them off lightly on a clean paper towel and lay them flat to dry, depending on the size of the brush can take about 30-60 minutes to dry.

*Oh and Yes, you read right, It's not a misprint. Coconut oil is very versatile and can be used for many things from cooking to cleansing to moisturizing AND conditioning your makeup brushes! Coconut oil is enriched in vitamins A, B, C, and E!  :D

Looking for a decent set of makeup brushes? Check out Bombshell By ShanaMarie

Hope this was helpful and happy brush cleaning!

Banana + peels = Great skin

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on April 28, 2012 at 3:15 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi darlings,

Did you know that bananas contain 3 natural sugars that combined with fiber give an instant, substantial boost of energy. Now we know it's a good source of iron, magnesium and potassium and helps reduce menstrual cramps. However, aside from the many health benefits there are also beauty benefits.

Bananas are so rich in vitamin A, B and E and hence works as an anti-aging agent. They're also loaded with soothing properties that help in reducing reddness, swellings and It is known to be helpful in clearing acne as well. Because the peels contain antioxidants and minerals this helps to keep your skin soft, supple, healthy and glowing. It can improve the overall texture and tone of your skin.

So next time you're done eating your banana, rub what's left on the inside of the peel onto your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Make sure to follow up with a moisterizer.

Cheers to healthy glowing skin dolls!

How to get pouty fuller lips!

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on April 26, 2012 at 4:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey Dolls, did you know that you can get pouty fuller lips with just a few easy tips?

So to make the lips appear more pouty, simply use a natural color lip liner and outline the top lip & the philtrum (the two midline grooves that run from the top of the lip to the nose) and the cupid's bow, this will highlight it. Don't highlight the bottom lip. If you don't have a natural lip liner you can use some transluent powder instead.

Now lightly blend the lipliner with your finger so it looks suttle...

I recommend not using a color lip liner as you don't want to draw a hard lip line, Instead take your lipstick or lip gloss and smudge it to make the lips look fuller. Try to stick with light color lipsticks, you don't want to go too dark, as dark shade lipstick can make your lips look smaller... *To bring a feature forward, you start by making it lighter, and if you want to push something back, you shade it darker.

Bonus tip ~ For a dramatic fullness use a lipstick shade with a hint of frost OR apply a white shimmer eyeshadow in the center of your bottom lip. Check out Bombshell By ShanaMarie and create your fuller pouty lips!

Do you have any fun tips to make you lips apper fuller?

I'm a dreamer! What about you?

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on April 22, 2012 at 8:20 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey dolls,

These past couple of weeks had been super busy and I'm loving every minute & second of it. This past Friday we had a booth at the Sheckys Girls Night Out event, this was our second year attending with over 2000 women there. I have to say how blessed I felt with all the buzz around our booth the entire night! Every single person who came by our booth THANK YOU!

When I look back on the picture above from when we first launch to the other day, I seriously just feel so much joy in my heart about where we are today! I use to talk about this "IDEA", this "PASSION" this "DREAM"  yet somehow throughout the years I would convience myself that it was too late, I was too old, I have to foucs on my job and blah, blah, blah! Till one day, as I was working at my "corporate" job with my "fancy" little title I asked myself, who am I doing this for? Why am I working so hard for a company that I don't even believe in? Why aren't I working this had towards my true passion and dreams? I realized that it's not too late and no matter how far or out of reach your dream feels, you have to have faith that  you're a lot closer then you think! It's NEVER too late!!!

I feel so blessed to have the support and help that I do! A special thanks to my lovely helpers for the evening!

I'm so greatful to all of you who follow me and support me, I want you to know I am here for you too! Yesterday I was inspired by Joel Osteen's sermon on being a "Now Person". Quit putting things off. Stop acting passive and complacent. Start acting on EVERY opportunity given to you. Only then will you get to where you want to go! If you wait to make a decision for the "RIGHT TIME" you will never make it. One day can turn into a year, one year can turn into a life time! Don't let that happen to you, this is why I started this blog to share our passions, idea's and dreams!!!! So wherever you are, whatever you're doing I hope sharing this with you brings a smile and some motivation your way!

Do you have a dream?

Get more from your eye primer!!!

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on April 18, 2012 at 4:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey dolls,

Lately my lips had been looking flaking and feathering, so I've been applying eye primer to my lips. Did you know that eye primer is a versatile beauty product? Normally, eye primer is applied to the lids of the eyes as a base, preventing smudging, creasing, flaking and ensuring long-lasting eyeshadow.

However, primer can be used on your lips under your lipstick or lipgloss too and it helps prevent all of the above. This simple trick comes in handy for special occasions or long work days when you don't have time to reapply.

I also love the way it keeps the lipstick true to its color! (On Wednesdays we wear Pink!) shhhhh ;D

Of course I love to use a Mineral Eyeshadow Primer because it has key vitamins such as A, C and E to help prevent aging and it moisturizes the skin. And I'm ALL about preventing aging and moisturizing my skin hahahaha.... Check out Prime Time Eyes it's a mineral eyeshadow primer and can be used for your lips as well. :)

Here is a key tip ~ apply the primer from the center of your lips moving outward, and be sure to distribute evenly. Wait a few secods for the primer to settle and dry then apply your favorite lipstick or lipgoss!

Have you ever tried this before? What do you think?

Lots of hugs, kisses & lipstick/lipglosses~Xo~Xo

Lets talk Makeup brushes!

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on April 11, 2012 at 1:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Hey Dolls,

I recently did a demonstration for BombshellbySM and I got tons of questions, which I loved answering!!! One of the many  popular questions were about makeup brushes; what brushes do you need to start with, and what are they used for? I was amazed how some told me they only owned one brush (whaaaaaaaaaaaat *Gasp)! Makeup brushes go hand & hand with your makeup because, well, you don't own just one product, do you? If you do, STOP reading: this post isn't for you! hahaha... No but seriously dolls, makeup brushes are a must in any gal's makeup drawer. You don't have to spend a ton of money on a decent set to get started.

So lets talk brushes, don’t you just looooove how there are a billion of them? ahhhh.. How fustrating that can be to those who are just getting strated. In my opinion, start with the basics. You will learn later as your techniques get better and you're more familar with the brushes that there are several kinds of styles for each brush!  You can have the best brand of eye shadow, but if it's not applied with the correct brush, its bound to look “made-up”. Of course, you will learn tips & tricks for applying your makeup and different brush styles you like as you start using them.

So here are my picks...

Powder Blush ~ WHEN IN DOUBT, BUFF IT OUT ~ Perfect for applying powder foundation, setting powders and BLUSH, for that flawless, finished look!

(if you are a contouring kinda gal, like me :D)

Angle Blush Brush ~ Highlight & Contour ~ This brush is used to apply blush to your cheeks and can be use to contour the face!

Foundation Brush ~ Point & Perfect ~ Is used for applying foundation liquid or cream and concealers.

Eyeshadow Brush ~ ALL EYES ON ME ~ Try and look for a medium head, ideal for applying base shadow to the eyelids.

Blending Brush ~ I'LL BE THE SMUDGE OF THAT ~ There are several different kinds of these brushes, I recommend that you start with a smaller one with rounded bristles. This is used to apply eyeshadow in the crease line or can be used to smudge color along the lash line.

Angle Brush ~ WHAT'S YOUR ANGLE??? ~ Small angled brush for filling in brows or lining the eyes.

If you are a beginner, try a travel set. You can find some decent sets for reasonable prices, plus they usually come with the brushes above and sometimes a few more :) Target has some decent sets as well as BombshellBySM!

What do you think about my list? Would you add another must-have brush for beginners?

Do you know how to work your eye shape?

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on March 31, 2012 at 12:15 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey Dolls,

Last week I was approached by someone who complimented me on my make-up and she told me that she wish she could try different looks with her eyes, but that she didn’t have much lid space so she wasn’t sure how to acheive it.  I explained to her that with her specific eye shape, there are special techniques that she could use to enhance her eyes… Today I thought i share some quick tips...

All eyes are not created equal, so what might work for a person with Close-set eyes, won’t necessarily work for a person with hooded eyes. Hope this helps!

Average Eyes ~

These are the most common eye shape with their upswept lift at the outer corner. These eyes call for creativity. They can be made to look deeper and more intense.

Wide-Set Eyes ~

Tend to give your face an open, youthful appearance. This look can be intensified by applying the strongest eyeshadow effects near the outer corner of the eye. Keep shadow uniform and within outer corners. Brush lashes straight up.

Close Set eyes ~

These eye have a dramatic, sultry look. It can be enhanced by concentrating color near the eye's inner corners. Extend smoky shadow beyond outer corners to exaggerate them. Brush lashes out.

Deep Set Eyes ~

These eyes need to be brought forward. The eyelid crease is set back so the area from the base of lashes to brow bone seems hidden. To enhance the deep-set eyes line upper and lower lids (never just upper). Choose light shadows -pale pink, peach or beige- of eye shadow. More intense shading on the brow bone also gives the eyes prominence.

Prominent eyes ~

These eyes tend to dominate the facial features. The eyelids are too large. A tip you can try is – medium to deep shades of shadow on the lids as they help to minimize the appearance of your lids. Liner when applied to the lash bases from corner to corner gives prominent eyes a smoldering and mysterious look. Finish with a coat of black mascara on both upper and lower lashes.

Hooded Eyes ~

These eyes are set so the natural crease in the eyelid is not readily seen. To make such eyes look more expressive apply a medium to dark shadow on the crease and hooded area. Highlighting the brow bone and lining the lash base gives hooded eyes an alluring shape.

What set of eyes are yours and do you have any special tricks you use?

Hugs & kisses

Xoxo

Hair TLC

Posted by TheShanaMarieShow on February 26, 2012 at 12:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Hey dolls, Thought you all might like to learn how to get a little hair tlc for your SundayFunday!

What you need is 1 avocado, 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of honey.

Chop up your avocado in a bowl and add the rest of the ingredients and be sure to mix into a paste. Then apply the mixture all over hair massaging into scalp. Leave on for 45 minutes, once done use a gentle shampoo then rinse off with luke warm water... Don't use hot water or you'll end up with scramble eggs on your head... not a good look hahahaha

The benefits of this hair mask is that the avocado is great at helping to hydrate the hair & contains vitamins C & E... This helps improve circulation & act as an antioxidant for hair follicles. Avocado also has copper properties that help promote hair growth. The Egg yolk contains protein which strengthens your hair & gives shine. Honey has a lot of nourishments and beautifying ingredients that are good to nourish hair. It helps with hair loss, it also is used for colored hair leaving it look shiny and alive because of its revitalizing properties.

Let me know if you try it out or if you have a hair mask you like to share ~Xo~Xo

The two designs to choose from are diagonal lines or a starburst isn't this ahhhhh-mazing???? Love!!!! I just order mine online from Sephora... They range from 15-28!!!! I believe Sephora has them the cheapest...

BATH: If your trying the Rose mask why not unwind in a warm bath filled with rose pedals and your favorite bubble bath. It's relaxing and luxurious & will make your skin feel super silky!

Rose petal toner? Rose water is awesome because it not only smells Ahhhh-mazing, but it's great for dry, sensitive and normal skin. It also constricts your pores, which helps prevent breakouts and keeps you lookin' Fabulous! so what do you need?

1 cup of rose pedals you can use red or white whatever you have, 2 cups of water and a sterilzed spray bottle. So place your rose pedals in a bowl, then pour two cups of boiling water over them and cover with lid. Let the rose pedals soak for 2-3 hours then use a stainer and add your awesome smelling rose water to a spray bottle, and Voila! You can use a cotton pad as well and apply all over face! Use your toner after washing your face or using your Rose Mask and before moisturing your face. Tip: you can store this in the fridge up to a week!

Rose Facial Steam - Take 10-15 rose pedals any color and place in large bowl, then take boiling water and pour over rose pedals! Take a towl and place over head and place your face over bowl to allow the steam to open your pores. This is really good to do right before your face mask!
